Sports Watch Monitor Line Moves, Top Trends and Free Picks

By Doug Upstone

The NBA contest has seen little action in moving the numbers and larger favorites like the Angles and Giants have come down, while the Dodgers are on the rise. Instead, we will focus on closer money lines in baseball and look at the NHL Playoffs tonight. Like we say every day, understanding line moves can build your bankroll.

NHL – (17) NEW YORK at (18) MONTREAL 8:05 E NBCSN

The Rangers can wrap up the Eastern Conference crown and advance to the Stanley Cup finals with a victory. New York actually opened as a -115 favorite, but has been bet down to +105 underdogs. Hockey bettors are figuring Montreal will play with great urgency in trying to extend the series, but this will not happen unless they improve on 1 for 17 power play in this series. While the Blueshirts are 2-12 when leading a playoff series of late, they are 12-1 when ahead 3-1. SWM TakeLean Montreal

MLB – (957) SAN DIEGO at (958) ARIZONA 9:40 E FSSD, FSAZ

After an atrocious 4-18 start at home (includes being the home team in Australia twice), Arizona has won three in a row at Chase Field. The D-Backs were released by oddsmakers as -135 ML choice, but they have tumbled to -122. Those betting baseball realize the Snakes are 3-8 versus left-hand starters and while Eric Stults (2-5, 4.97 ERA) is no flame-thrower for San Diego, he’s won five of nine against Arizona. Also, the Diamondbacks Wade Miley (3-5, 4.85) has no clue how to retire San Diego hitters with a 1-6 record (5.09 ERA) in 10 starts versus San Diego.SWM TakeLean Arizona

MLB – (967) HOUSTON at (968) KANSAS CITY 8:10 E CSN-H, FSKC

Thanks mostly to George Springer’s power surge, Houston has won three straight and scored 22 runs, after tallying six runs in their previous four. The highly touted rookie has five dingers in four days and was a one-man wrecking crew in taking down Kansas City yesterday with 4 for 4 day which also included a pair of doubles. Bettors are riding the hot hand and lowered the Astros from +130 to +115 and Houston will start Collin McHugh (2-3, 3.32), who has pitched well. Jeremy Guthrie (2-3, 4.39) gets the start in a bid to end an eight-game winless drought and with the total at 8.5; he and the Royals are 17-4 at home when the total is 8 to 8.5 the last three seasons. SWM Take – Lean Kansas city

MLB – (979) N.Y. YANKEES at (980) ST. LOUIS 8:15 E YES, FSMW

David Phelps (1-1, 3.18) and Lance Lynn (5-2, 3.60) will take the ball for their respective team in interleague action. Both the Yankees and Cardinals have been trending Over in recent days, but that is not baseball bettors are advising, lowering the total from 8 to 7.5. it really comes downs to sentiment with New York 39-17 UNDER vs. a NL starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.50 to 4.20 or thinking St. Louis will continue to improve on 47-27 OVER May mark.SWM Take – St. Louis wins
