As usual the memo around the Yankees is the same as it is every year win the World Series. Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone are chasing the trophy that’s eluded the Bronx since their 09 win versus the Phillies. The Yankees hit the 267 homeruns last year the best in the American League. Finishing last season at 100-62 the Yanks only finished second and got into the playoffs via wildcard spot.

Cashman and his staff were busy this offseason starting with trading their top prospect to the Mariners for James Paxton to improve their rotation. With Didi Gregorious expected to miss the first half of the season the Yanks signed DJ LeMahieu and Troy Tulowitzki to add depth and a substitute till Didi returns to the middle infield. Keeping the bullpen top notch was a focus for the Yankees resigning Zack Britton and signing Adam Ottavino to compliment Betances and Chapman.

The rotation at this point consists of Severino, Tanaka, Happ, Sabathia, and Paxton. Severino is coming off his best season winning 19 games and striking out 220 batters and will only be 25 this year. Tanaka has been hit or miss for the Yanks since he came over from Japan. Paxton is transitioning from the west coast to the east coast and the hitter friendly AL East. He won 11 games threw 2 complete games and struck out 208 batters last season. Sabathia is retiring at the end of the season calling it quits after 19 seasons 11 of those being in New York it’ll be fun to watch his retirement tour to the other ballparks.

The offense for the Yankees found a way to improve this offseason they seem to have opportunity to hit more homeruns this year. Aaron Judge struggled in his second full season in the Majors with 25 homers less than last year and 47 fewer RBI’s. Giancarlo Stanton had no trouble adjusting to the AL East leading the team in homers with 38 and RBI’s at 100. Miguel Andujar will continue to develop and looks like a good young superstar for the future of the Yankees. The bat to fix is gonna be with Gary Sanchez who dealt with injuries and batted a poor .186 when he did play.

As always the AL East is going to be the toughest division in baseball and 2019 is no different. However, the Yankees have the players and payroll to compete every season it’s unlikely they’ll repeat 100 wins though. The boys in the Bronx are looking at a playoff spot this year and are definitely top 5 favorites to win it all. Sit back and relax Aaron Boone’s club will be playing in October.
